God, Robots, Free Will and the Big Bang
Reading Girls' School was ably represented by some of our year 10's at this event at the University of Reading.
We are very proud of the Year 10 girls who attended this event. About 40 schools had applied for places and sixteen had been selected, including us, but the schools were from as far away as Torquay and Birmingham.
Our girls were a great credit to the school - participating well in all events - but also being selected on many occasions to be interviewed. BBC Breakfast were there for most of the day and our girls were frequently the group being portrayed and being interviewed. Click here to see some of the interviews which took place on the day. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-19974380 They were articulate and well presented, and the organisers of the day were very pleased with them.
Besides giving them the opportunity to see a robot and consider issues like can robots appreciate music and what is the different way that an engineer, a scientist and a philosopher/ theologian considers questions, it was a great experience for them - visiting the University, being involved in a large scale event with many different schools, and interacting with the media.
