September 2023

We are very excited that you will be joining Reading Girls’ School in September. We are a great school, everybody is very friendly, we work hard in class, have lots of opportunities to get involved with enrichment, the teachers provide exciting lessons and we really achieve. If you were unable to attend the Welcome Evening on 13th March please do come in for a visit during the school day at your convenience.  We are huge advocates of personal development at RGS so to that end, the event was led by our girls who are always keen to tell you about their school.

As with every national offer day, the majority of girls and parents will have chosen RGS as their first preference while others will have not. Albeit, this is without doubt a perfect time to join our school, which is second only to Reading (Boys) School, as verified by the Guardian Schools Guide.

I would like to extend an invitation to girls and parents who have not had the opportunity to visit our school, to come and see us in action.  We pride ourselves on ‘everyday is open day at Reading Girls’ School’ and do not request advance bookings.  Rather people are free to just turn up.   They say if you want to know what a school is really like, ask the pupils. Therefore, please email admin@readinggirlsschool.net to book a pupil-led tour of the school and have all your questions answered.

FEEDBACK.....

We always welcome and encourage feedback from our visitors and here are some we have recently received following tour of the school.

  • "Many thanks for accommodating us for our visit this morning.  It was great to see RGS in action and we were so impressed with everything we saw.  Please do pass on our thanks to your fantastic tour guides and the staff whose doors we peered into, too. I thought you might like to know that we were greeted with smiles from the students as we passed classrooms and invariably had doors held open for us.  Our daughter had been a bit nervous about starting secondary school, but she said afterwards that everyone seemed so nice that she wasn't worried any more.  You must be extremely proud of them all."
  • "Thank you for organising the tour for us. It was very much appreciated and answered more questions than we realised we had. I'm looking forward to our daughter getting started and I think she's rather lucky. It sounds like she feels much better, but always hard to get straight answers from kids. I'm sure there will be first day nerves mixed with a generous amount of excitement."

EXPLORER DAYS: Monday 3rd and Tuesday 4th July (9.30am - 2.30pm)

This is a two-day transition experience that will enable the girls to get to know their way around the school and to experience what learning at RGS is like. It also helps us to get to know our new students, and plan for September.

Students will be welcomed at 9.30am in reception by the transition team (do not drop off before this time), they should attend in their normal primary school uniform. The programme will run on Monday 3rd and Tuesday 4th July, with parents/carers invited to join their daughters for a celebration ceremony on the Tuesday afternoon at 2.30pm.

They will need to bring with them the following:

  • Packed lunch, a snack and a drink.
  • Pens, Colouring Pencils, Ruler
  • Comfortable footwear such as trainers

FIRST DAY OF TERM: Tuesday 5th September 2023

All students in new Year 7 should arrive by 8.15am for an 8.30am start.
