Selective Stream Test
At Reading Girls' School we have a 'Selective Stream' providing a more intensive academic education. This is unashamedly designed to enable intelligent and adaptable girls to progress through the National Curriculum to achieve the highest grades in public examinations of which they are capable.
The school aims to provide the highest quality education for all girls. We believe that education should cater for students of all abilities, including the academically able, Reading Girls' is committed to providing a wide and challenging academic education suited to the ability and needs of each girl in a disciplined and orderly environment where she will be actively encouraged to attain her personal best.
THE ROUTE TO SUCCESS
As a parent, it is your right to choose the very best education for your daughter and at Reading Girls' School we are pleased to be able to offer you this opportunity. This is an academically demanding route, and it would be unfair to admit your daughter if she were not able to cope with the pressure and the high standards of work and behaviour expected.
Education involves a partnership — an enormously exciting and challenging relationship between the school and the home. At the centre of this partnership is your daughter. At Reading Girls’ School it is our privilege and responsibility to enable her to develop into a confident and successful young woman. It is vital that we have your fullest support to allow this to happen. Should you wish your daughter to be considered for a place in the Selective Stream, you will need to take a personal interest in her work and ensure that she follows a rigorous homework programme. If you can give us this assurance, we would be delighted for your daughter to apply.
The Selective Stream test is provided by CEM. The CEM Select 11+ Entrance test covers three core areas: Numerical, Verbal and Non-verbal ability. Your daughter will complete the assessment independently, working at a computer guided by on-screen instructions. The average duration is 60-minutes.
CEM Select computer assessments, supported by the University of Durham, are designed for selective state schools. They enable children to demonstrate their academic potential and ability ensuring a fair school admissions process.
If your daughter has any special educational needs please provide written evidence from her primary school. This would need to indicate that she is entitled to 25% extra time for tests and is likely to receive it for her Key Stage 2 SATs tests at the end of the academic year.
If your daughter is unwell on the day of the test you must notify us and provide a medical certificate to enable her to sit the test on an alternative date.
If you would like your daughter to sit the Selective Stream test please register her details, and we will contact you in due course. Testing for entry in September 2022 will take place on either 21 September 2021 or 19 October 2021.
