"79% of students reported that they received talking tokens in their lessons"

(Student survey October 2019)

Across the school our curriculum is delivered through our deeper applied learning strategy. This strategy was introduced at Reading Girls’ School in September 2018 and has been developed further this year at Key Stage 3, during which DAL external providers have been identified between subjects, to allow students to apply their knowledge and understanding to real life experiences.

We do not advocate that any particular approach should be used exclusively in teaching. Different approaches to teaching can be effective. What is appropriate will depend on the aims of a particular lesson or activity, and its place in the sequence of teaching a particular topic. Research has demonstrated that the more pupils are actively involved in their learning, the better the chance of securing new knowledge and skills in long term memory.
