2015 is the UNESCO International Year of Light and on 3rd July 2015 Mr Tuggey and Mr Dilley took a group of year 9 students to the Festival of Light at Reading University to celebrate it.

During the day the students took part in a range of Art, Music, Literature and Science workshops on the theme of light. Activities included Performance Art, where they composed and played electronic music and wrote and performed a script based on the experiences of an explorer from Earth, travelling at the speed of light and returning unaged after hundreds of years had elapsed on earth. In the Literature workshop they composed poems based on the first sight of the Moon. They explored aspects of the electromagnetic spectrum and experimented with photofluorescence and chemiluminescence in one science workshop and used long exposure photography to create light sculptures in the other, as shown in the photographs.
