SKILL! Reading -
Aldermore Bank presented students with a £1000 Cheque today, the girls are planning to add it to a fundraising appeal for a new school minibus.
In April this year, Year 10 Business Studies students attended Skill! Reading at the offices of Microsoft. They worked in teams with a mentor from Aldermore Bank to think of a business idea to develop; the event was led by very motivational and energetic young entrepreneurs.
There were eight teams in total, including two from RGS. All the students were shy to start with but the mentors soon put them at their ease and they came up with some great ideas. Well done to our ‘Solar Beats’ team for winning the competition!
They received a beautiful trophy and gift vouchers each. Their idea was to create headphones with solar panels to recharge mobile devices from.
After this exciting win, the projects were all included in an online competition to win £1000 for charity. Staff parents and students were all invited to vote and Solar Beatz, won by a considerable margin! So today we received a visit from Carl D’Amassa from Aldermore bank to present a cheque which was substantial in more ways than one as you can see from the photograph!
The Press were here to record the event and you should see something in the local press shortly. Congratulations to the winning team of Elizabeth Buttazzoni, Aishat Hamzat, Anika Javeid, Tasnia Talukder and Asya Mohammed.
